Wizards of the Coast confirms Marvel crossover expansion with new card reveals
At the opening panel of MagicCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Wizards of the Coast dropped a bombshell: Magic: The Gathering's partnership with Marvel is far from over. The publisher confirmed additional crossover sets beyond the already-announced Marvel Super Heroes, which launches June 28, and the smaller Spider-Man set released earlier.
In a dramatic reveal, two new cards were shown — The Vision and The Mind Stone — the first artifacts tied to Marvel's iconic Infinity Stones. This marks the deepest integration yet between the two franchises.
“This is just the beginning of a multi-year journey,” said Wizards of the Coast head designer Mark Rosewater. “The Vision and Mind Stone are the first pieces of a much larger puzzle.”
The panel also teased additional Marvel-themed mechanics and hinted at a future set centered on the Avengers.
What the reveals mean for players
The Vision card, a 3/3 white-blue artifact creature with flying and vigilance, enters with a +1/+1 counter for each artifact you control. The Mind Stone, a two-mana artifact, taps for one mana of any color and can be sacrificed to scry 3.
Both cards are designed to synergize with existing artifact strategies, but their Marvel branding signals a shift toward narrative-driven crossovers.
“We expect these cards to be highly sought after by collectors and competitive players alike,” said gaming industry analyst Dr. Sarah Chen. “The Infinity Stones are a natural fit for Magic’s color-pie system.”
Background: The Universes Beyond initiative
Wizards of the Coast launched the Universes Beyond program in 2021 to bring outside IPs into Magic. The first major crossover was with Warhammer 40,000, followed by The Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who.
Marvel’s entry began with Spider-Man, a small set released in early 2026. The full Marvel Super Heroes set, launching June 28, includes over 250 cards and features characters like Iron Man, Black Panther, and Captain America.
The latest reveal confirms that more Marvel sets are in development, though Wizards declined to specify timelines or themes.
